Microsoft released Windows 95 on Aug 24, 1995, 15 years ago. It was developed internally as Windows 4 or under the codename Chicago. The whole operating system was designed to be a “ground up” improvement of Windows 3.1 including vast enhancements to the GUI, or “user interface”. It was with this release of Windows that Microsoft became the computing powerhouse it became in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was also this success with Windows 95 and early versions of Internet Explorer that would lay the ground work for all of Microsoft’s problems with the Justice Department about being a monopoly.
Windows 95 was the birth of Windows as we now know it today. The taskbar and Start button began here as well as “plug and play” compatibility, 32 bit processing and the Windows Explorer file management application. All of these innovations were included and remain in current versions of Windows mostly unchanged to this day. Internet Explorer 1.0 was available for the release of Windows 95, but not with the default installation, which didn’t even install TCP/IP. You had to buy the Microsoft Plus! pack to get the brand new Microsoft browser as well as other features like themes and disc compression. Microsoft Plus! was mostly used in factory installs, so not many people used IE at first. Internet Explorer would become part of the Win95 installation with IE v2.0 several months later.
Above is a picture of the basic Win95 desktop. This still looks like many computer desktops today. You can see many basic Windows programs like Wordpad, Calculater, MS Paint and Windows Explorer that even today exist on current versions of Windows. Windows 95 was launched with Apple-like fanfare including people waiting in lines to buy a copy at midnight and a full on television ad campaign including a commercial featuring the Rolling Stones song Start Me Up.
To help users with the brand new interface, Microsoft created a 30 minute promotional video starring Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry.
All of Microsoft’s ancillary programs were updated with the new 32 bit architecture and user interface enhancements and bundled into Microsoft Office 95, also released on Aug 24, 1995.
The standard lineup of MS Office 95 was Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Schedule. Microsoft Schedule was the precursor to Microsoft Outlook (which was released in 1997). The Professional version of MS Office also included MS Access. If you bought MS Office 95 Professional on CD-ROM (as opposed to like 10 3″ discs) you were also given MS Bookshelf which was Microsoft’s version of a digital encyclopedia (it was a cheaper version of Microsoft Encarta).
It was this release of Microsoft Windows that pretty much cemented Microsoft as the operating system for the masses. So regardless of what you personally think of Microsoft, there’s no denying that it is an essential part of our computing history.

Dressing modestly without being made fun of is a big challenge for girls of the modern era, especially if you’re a Muslim girl. This article will prove this previous sentence wrong! For reading steps, tips and warning of how to dress modestly as a Muslim girl keep reading further.
Steps
- Wear proper hijab. This means that you must cover everything apart from your face and hands, the clothing must be loose and not revealing the shape of your body, it must not be see through, it must not be too eye catching and it must not resemble the clothing of a man. Wearing it is a command by Allah, we have to obey this rule.
- Do not wear make-up in front of any non mahram males, that includes in laws. Do not leave the house wearing make-up. During Eid, using sparkly lip gloss, eyeshadow, and lipstick is perfectly fine. However, using a little makeup is okay as long as you don’t abuse your right to wear it. However, there are still debates about whether or not you’re allowed to wear it. Since there’s no obvious answer, follow the tips above. If you’re not sure about wearing it outside, that’s okay, but you can wear it in front of a mahram.
- Hijab is not just the headscarf. This is a common misconception. Skinny jeans, see-through clothes, and tight t-shirts messes up the whole modesty concept. It is preferable to wear an outer garment outside, such as an abaya or jilbab, because even loose clothing is sometimes not Islamic enough.
Tips
- Wear a loose hoodie over a shirt that’s too tight.
- A mahram is someone you don’t have to wear a headscarf in front of, in the hijab sense. In this situation, a blood mahram is father, grandfather, great-grandfather and so on; brother; son, grandson, great-grandson;uncle,parents’ uncle, grandparents’ uncle and so on; nephew, grandnephew, great-grandnephew and so on. In-law mahrams are father-in-law; son-in-law; stepfather (mother’s husband) if their marriage is consummated; stepson (husband’s son) if her marriage is consummated. If you or your parent breaks their relationship with your father or spouse, and if you or your parent break your relationship with your stepmother, stepfather, or second husband, then your in-laws, steps, and husband (if you divorced him) become non mahram.
- A long sleeved chiffon-type cloth for the shirt always looks modest. It won’t form fit, so there’s no ‘chest shape.’
- Wear surma instead of eyeliner. It freshens up your eyes.
- Wear pretty skirts or fashionable loose trousers in place of skinny jeans.
- Make sure nothing of your body is showing but your face and hands.
- Creativity is key to a modest but smart image.
- Accessorize!
- Make sure to stay clean as well. Cleanliness is a virtue!
- Make sure to cover your ankles.
- You may apply make up as long as you keep the look natural. If you don’t keep your intentions good, then it will be a sin.
- Other people should be able to look at you respectfully or lower their gaze. You should be able to look at yourself with respect as well. If you can’t stop staring at yourself, this mean you’ve overdone it.
- Make sure that no non mahram sees you violating the dress code. Even though your dad and brothers(only real ones)are mahram, you should dress modestly in front of them too, for respect.
- Remember the wisdom behind the command of Allah to wear the hijab if you ever feel tempted to remove it.
- Straight-leg jeans or pants can replace skinny jeans or pants.
Site: http://www.pakistanigurls.comAbout: there’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious..makes you so sick at heart..that you cant take part. you cant even passively take part..and you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and youve got to make it stop..and youve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless youre free, the machine will be prevented from working at all..Se
In the Quran,it reads ““O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (Quran 33:59) Although the one reason we all wear the hijab is follow this commandment, we still want to feel beautiful both inside and outside. Here are a few tips to do this and maintain modesty .
Steps
1.First, lets start off by figuring out which style of hijab works best for your face shape. There are wrap like ones, “Turkish” style ones, two pieces (not recommended for older women) and many more! There is Persian style which is simply wrapped aaround your head and knotted under your chin.Look up websites on the Internet and you are more than likely to come across countless hijab sites. The variety of scarf styles are endless, but you’re bound to find one that suits you.
2. Imporovise! If there are no hijab stores in your area, you can always substitute. Visit a local, ordinary store like TJ Max or Macy’s and check out the scarf section. They sell scarves made to wear around your neck, but muslim girls have different uses for them. They hae good selection, nice colors and sizes, and good prices. Often, you cna find better hijabs at an ordinary store! You can use the scarves for hijabs.
3. Now that we have the right type, work on the colors. Fair skinned women and dark toned women are at an advantage in this area. Almost all colors of hijab will look good on these two extremes of skin tones.
4.Consider your eye color. Try to go for colors similar to your eye color. Light eyes always look good in black and gray hijabs, while dark eyed girls should go for lighter colors to emphasize the difference.
5. Every woman’s favorite thing in the world MAKE UP!.. Although this has been a controversial question of whether wearing the hijab with makeup defeats the purpose of trying to promote modesty, It is up to you to decide what you believe is “too much” makeup. A little mascara and lip-gloss is subtle, yet highlights the natural beauty that Allah has blessed women with. It is always fun to experiment with different colors of eyeliner such as blue, green, plum, gray and many others! After applying eye liner, you can use mascara on your top lashes and finish it all off with a quick brush of pink blush. It looks subtle but greatly emphasizes your features.
6. Take good care of your skin! This is an annoying thing for some of us to hear. It is easier to wish your skin was clear than to actually have clear skin. This is where the invention of foundation and concealer can be appreciated! A little cover, powder and/or concealer can make your complexion seemingly flawless. As many muslim girls may know, not all parents appreciate their daughters using too much makeup. Compromise with them. At least, try to use some powder. It will make a difference.
7. Match your clothes as best as you can. However, if you find you don’t have a matching hijab, white hijab goes good with everything.
8. Don’t be afraid to be in style! Just because we are modestly dressed, doesn’t mean our sense of style needs to diminish! Get those cute shoes you saw at the mall! Just don’t go overboard though. We all have good style, we just need to work on bringing it out. Try to imitate styles that you see celebrities wearing just Hijabize It! Make it appropriate. Try wearing long dresses with the regular(skinny is not modest and too exposing)jeans under with cute, matching flats and a matching hijab!
9. Be proud, but don’t be arrogant. Even if your opinions conflict with others, express them in a rational way.
Taken From : http://www.pakistanigurls.com/pakistani-girls-issues/pakistani-pretty-hijabi-girl/
In the Muslim religion, women are advised to follow numerous rules that at times may appear to clash with western standards of fairness and equality. However, if one looks into the rules and thinks with an uncritical eye, one will come to notice that everything Muslim women are told to do, ultimately benefits women.
In the Quran, it states ” For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast, for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah’s praise, for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward. (33:35)”
If you are a Muslim girl who feels that she has been lacking in her religious duties, it is not too late to turn that around, regardless of your age or what you have done.
Steps
1. Understand that things are going to be okay. Allah forgives minor sins for He is All-Understanding and All-Forgiving. Even if you feel that you are already too deep in sin to turn around and become the good Muslim that you truly are, you are not.
2. Discover from whence the influences that are causing you to turn your back on your religion come. Maybe you can trace back the cause to either family situations or friends that are leading you in the wrong path. Leave the friends. They will not be there on judgment day when you have to face Allah on your own. If it is because of family, it is a little more difficult. This is where the next steps will come in handy.
3. If you are truly devoted to turning over a new leaf and becoming the best Muslim girl that you can be, you might want to consider wearing the hijab or a veil (keep in mind you do not have to wear a veil, however it is obligatory for Muslim girls to wear a headscarf). The hijab is not just a piece of cloth that covers hair, it changes you mentally and spiritually. Think of it as a way for Allah to protect the women. As soon as you wear the hijab, hopefully, your whole perspective on self-respect and values will automatically change. Not to say that non-hijabis are not protected or enlightened, but some believe you have a better chance of achieving this feeling by wearing the hijab.
4. Pray five times a day. But before you get on the prayer rug, learn what the prayer words mean. If you do not speak Arabic, try to find some translated versions of the prayer and take some time to read and understand what the words mean. After that, start making prayer a normal part of your day.
5. Read the Quran. Again, you can read it in English if you are not fluent in Arabic. Reading the Quran will help establish a useful relationship with Allah and will also allow you to understand how beautiful the religion is. Listening to it (you can find videos online) also makes you feel closer to Allah.
6. Learn more about Islam. Know what you have to do (which is called ‘wajib’ things) and what you can’t do (haram things). The Internet is a valuable source to search for Islamic rules and regulations.
7. Dress modestly. This does not mean that you have to look ugly or not stylish. Just be modest. Wear longer shirts and avoid tank tops and shorts. This also helps you to change your whole outlook on what is acceptable and what is not.
8. Hang out with good friends; going with the theme you may want to make friends who share your mission of being a good Muslim. If you are lucky enough, you might spot a Muslim girl your age. Be sure to make friends with a Muslim girl if you find one. You can tell her how you are trying to be a better Muslim, and she might be able to help!
9. Avoid negative influences, including old friends (as hard as it may be, the reward is well worth it) who may have had a bad influence or who bring out the negative characteristics in you. We all have the Shaitan (devil) in us, but it is our responsibility as Muslims to fight these temptations and urges by increasing our faith and spirituality.
10. Forgive yourself for any sins you may have committed. You need to let go of past mistakes and work on improving the future. Whatever has happened is done. It is in the past and there is nothing you can do to change it or better it. The only thing you can do is forgive yourself or use those negative experiences as motivation to get better and do good.
11. Notice where your weaknesses are and avoid them. For example, if you were a person who engaged in premarital sexual intercourse, avoid interaction with men. This is not to say that you should run every time a guy comes near, but instead, keep mostly female friends and try to avoid making friends with men who themselves are lacking morals and do not respect females. They are not people that you need in your life anyway.
12. Take it day by day. If you make it a priority in your mind that you want to strive to be the best Muslim girl possible, you will achieve this goal without even realizing it! Every time you are about to do something, think: “Is this something good or religious?” If it isn’t, don’t do it! Simply remind yourself and be ready to stop yourself, just in case.
Tips
- Every time you feel weak and do not have someone to talk to, remember that Allah is always there for you and HE is all you need to accomplish this mission.
- Keep in mind that to receive forgiveness from God there are four requirements:
- Recognizing the offense itself and its admission before God.
- Regretting the offense you performed.
- Making a commitment not to repeat the offense.
- Asking for forgiveness from God.
- Strive to achieve all four. Good luck and may Allah be with you!
- Seek knowledge. Trust me you will love this. Every time you learn a new thing about Islam you will be proud to be Muslim.
- Make lots of dua (supplication).
- At first, such a change may be prove to be quite different but it is possible.
- Whatever happens, DO NOT GIVE UP.
- dua, dua, and lots of dua
- trust in Allah
- telling the truth
- seeking knowledge
